My Favorite Super Bowl Ads

FINALLY!  After 2 years of careful, bland, and uninspired Super Bowl Commercials, brands are back on their game to impress us with unique, artistic advertisements.  These commercials touched upon a wide range of emotions, but had one goal in common: to emotionally connect consumers with the brands overall philosophy.

I think the difference between regular commercials you would see on a Monday night, and Super Bowl commercials, is the shying away of BUYMEBUYMEBUYME in favor of creating a deeper connection to make you connect with the brand.

Some brands nailed it, some missed it, but these are my top 5 favorites (in a particular order):

1 | CHRYSLER - MADE IN DETROIT :  Hands-Down, my absolute favorite of the night.  Two minutes of brilliant imagery, powerful language, and meaningful insight. Chrysler is standing up for a city so many have put down and empowering the middle class the city created.  The rustbelt may be struggling, but my Cleveland roots tells me we'll pull out strong and more capable as long as the companies that drive to economy continue to be innovative and powerful.

2 | MINI - CRAM IT IN THE BOOT : I mean, c'mon.  It's really funny.  It's a spectacle.  And MINI has just single-handedly created dozens of new entries on Urban Dictionary.

3 | VOLKSWAGEN - THE FORCE : Cute, human story.  Non-reliant on flash, computer generated novelties. VW also smart for releasing the video before the SB.  17,000,000 views on YouTube at the moment.

4 | VOLKSWAGEN - BLACK BEETLE : The new, new beetle.  Simple.

5 | CHEVROLET - STATUS : A car reading your Facebook updates is really really creepy, not to mention dangerous, but this is adorable.

I didn't intend to choose all automobile makers, it just happened that way.  Maybe next year my favorite can be a streetcar manufacturer or a walking shoe (that isn't Sketcher Shape-Ups).
